November 22, 2014 - Meeting Summary

The San Diego S Gaugers held the November club meeting at our home for the remainder of the year located at Grossmont Center, La Mesa. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Bob Graves, Dale Minard, Alex Sibbald, Ken Sadlock, and Oakley Warren.

Show and Tell:

Mike Forys brought a DVD which depicts the huge Miniature Wunderland HO layout in Hamburg, Germany. Dale contributed a brochure created in the late 50’s entitled Salute to Boy Scouts from the Association of American Railroads. Bob Graves presented a DVD titled The Story of The A.C. Gilbert Company.

Treasurer’s Report:

Bob Graves reported that we took in $125.00 in donations during our first weekend at Grossmont Center.

Standards Report:

Raulf Polichar is reworking the remote window startup button circuitry with a more robust relay.

Publicity Report:

The Union Tribune Photographer paid a visit to our exhibit and posted pictures on the Union Tribune website. Our visit to Grossmont was in print in both the Reader and the Night and Day Section of the UT. Dale also printed mini versions of our flyer for visitors to take with them to give to others.

Old Business:

Future Clubhouse Status:

Our future at Grossmont Center beyond the end of the year is up in the air. We would prefer to remain at our current location at least until the middle of February and hope that the new center management will allow this.

SDSG Website:

No Change

Clinics:

This topic has been temporarily shelved due to the demands of our current involvement at Grossmont Center.

Donation Box:

Ken Sadlock created a new donation box for the display. It is larger than the previous model and the money slot is larger also. The previous model was difficult for kids to use.

New Business:

Future events:

The December 20th meeting will be held at our layout display at Grossmont Center at 10AM. The Jan 17th meeting location and time are still TBD. At this meeting we will be electing officers and collecting annual dues.

Grossmont Center:

The SDSG club has moved into the storefront at Grossmont Center. The crowds have been very receptive to our exhibits and the attendance has been rising steadily. So far we have handled the crowds with 4 persons manning the exhibit, however we could use additional help as the crowds increase leading up to Christmas. Mike Forys has the signup sheet and schedule and members are encouraged to sign up and participate.

The Great Train Expo:

The Great Train Expo has scheduled a show in Del Mar on the 14th and 15th of February. Mike Forys will send in our application.

2015 Calendar:

Mike Forys introduced the schedule of club events for next year and the members voted to accept it as proposed.

Air Museum:

Dale Minard delivered two new modules that doubled the area of the Air Museum. The Air Museum is being used as a static display due to the limitations of our space.

Boy Scouts:

Dale Minard has been investigating merit badges that could be applicable to our operation.

Future Work Sessions

Mike asked that ideas for work sessions be brought forward since we have a place to work. Liberty Loop lower lake was brought up as a priority. Dale presented his method for decorating sky boards using printed scenes.

Meeting was adjourned at 11:15AM.
