November 16, 2021 - Meeting Summary

The San Diego S-Gaugers held the October club meeting at our clubhouse and on Zoom. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Ken Sadlock, Robert Graves, Les Smith, Scott Lewis, Dale Minard, Raulf Polichar, John Racey, Len Carapezza and Alex Sibbald.

Introduction of new faces / Show and Tell:

Mike Forys passed around an old forged train car that was part of a donated set. Dale Minard pointed out the new 3d printed, illuminated buildings that he constructed and installed on Liberty Loop. Dale also showed us the new 2021 NASG hopper car manufactured by American Models.

Treasurer's Report:

This month Bob Graves reported $240.36 from clubhouse visitor donations in September.

Standards Report:

Raulf Polichar disassembled and tested our overheated stockyard action car and found it to be functional although slightly warped. This was probably caused by a stuck activation button, something for us to watch out for in the future.

New Business:

Operating Session:

Mike Forys suggested that if anyone is interested in hosting an operating session to contact him. It would be limited to vaccinated club members.

Future events:

The next meetings will be on Tuesdays, December 7, 2021 and January 18, 2022 and will be held at our clubhouse and on Zoom. Grossmont Center passed out candy again this year on Halloween Sunday but with over 500 visitors who came inside and all the outside Mall traffic, the club spent an additional $130 on candy beyond the 3 bags the Mall provided.

Clubhouse:

Liberty Loop is sporting a Veterans Day themed centerpiece constructed by Bob Graves to be replaced soon with our winter toboggan centerpiece constructed by Mike Forys. Raulf Polichar will populate the front display case with Brass Locomotives for a month next year and Mike Forys will change the Halloween Ceramic Village Window Display to Christmas Ceramic Village Window Display.

Club Mural:

Two additional themes were presented a train station, or a San Diego Trolley.

Mall Management Meeting:

Mike Forys met with the new mall manager to discuss possible mall changes and expressed our desire to be involved with the planning. The management delivered a new tenants' handbook released early this month. The only item was the fingerprints on the window which is an indication that the window displays are popular. Mike explained that we have a professional window cleaning done every two weeks.

2022 Calendar:

Mike Forys presented the 2022 Calendar and it was approved on a vote by the members

Club Business:

Mike Forys presented a marked-up copy of the club bylaws for the club's review. He added non-discrimination wording at the same time and the change was approved on a vote by the members.

Other Items:

Raulf Polichar proposed a modification to PY1 to connect the two stub sidings which will further facilitate operations. Mike Forys is looking for freight station ideas for that empty piece of track to fit in a space approximately 3 to 37/8 X 66 inches.

Meeting was adjourned at 11:50 AM.
