February 19, 2019 - Meeting Summary

The San Diego S-Gaugers held the February club meeting at our clubhouse (304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10:00am. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Robert Graves, Raulf Polichar, Don Briggs, Alex Sibbald, Wes Noel, Ken Sadlock, Jerry Shiller and Dale Minard.

Introduction of new faces / Show and Tell:

Ken Sadlock presented two A.F. Gondolas that he purchased at a swap meet. Mike Forys displayed an A.F. Franklin Locomotive and tender in great condition and an A.F. sales brochure that were donated to the club last Saturday. Robert Graves brought in a TCA Convention 4-6-2 locomotive and four matching full, length passenger cars.

Treasurer’s Report:

Robert Graves reported that we received $347.36 from visitor donations. He reported that we had a monthly electric bill of $248.73 which was unusually high due to the heat running continuously. The problem has been solved and the next bill will be less than half of that.

Standards Report:

Raulf Polichar repaired the window switch and he dismantled and transformed the SN3 Shay #12 into a smooth, running machine. He is working on replacing the headlight which has burned out.

Publicity Report:

Les Smith has a new hip and hopes to return soon.

Old Business:

New Clinics:

No new clinic ideas were suggested.

New Gilbertown Modules:

Rework on the last module is on hold.

SN3 Addition Status.

The donated SN3 layout is stable and moveable thanks to the carpenter efforts of Dale Minard. He has built the support, straightened the layout and installed heavy duty wheels.

Window Layout Success and Visitor Attendance:

As of 021/16/2019 the window layout button has been pushed 1,680 times since our last meeting, 122,615 times since we installed it at Grossmont Center and 162,037 times since day one. Unusually low monthly count is partially a result of the window button failure.

New Business:

Future events:

The next meetings will be on Tuesdays, March 19 and April 16th and will be held at our clubhouse (suite 304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10AM. The work day for February has been moved to Thursday February 28th at 10:00am.

Grossmont Center / Lego Build Update:

The Lego Build day is scheduled for this Saturday, February 23rd and we will be open at 10 AM to support this event.

A suggestion was made to display the time saver modules during the malls last Saturday event off the odd numbered months. Mike Forys will coordinate with the mall.

Window Displays:

Raulf Polichar has the paint to paint the new engine for the window display but the rain has delayed the project.

Test Track:

The club will be building a multi-gauge test track due to many requests from visitors who have non-operating trains in other gauges and don't know where to turn for testing and advice. Test track will include S, Sn3, O, HO and N gauge track.

Youth Participation:

Ideas were discussed concerning youth participation in our favorite hobby. The club will host a young model railroad enthusiast next month in a module enhancement project.

Inventory:

The club needs to inventory the generous donations of trains and electronics to document items for sale.

Presentation Items:

The club discussed the clubhouse addition of several display items made available by Gary Jarvis. Items have been on display at the Miniature Museum located near Palomar Airport. Raulf Polichar offered to bring in a display case that he claims should fit.

Meeting was adjourned at 11:40 AM.
