October 16, 2018 - Meeting Summary
The San Diego S-Gaugers held the October club meeting at our clubhouse (304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10:00am. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Robert Graves, Raulf Polichar, Les Smith, Don Briggs, Dale Minard, Alex Sibbald, Ken Sadlock and Jerry Shiller.
Introduction of new faces / Show and Tell:
Jerry Shiller brought in a Popular Mechanics pictorial on the history of trains, suitable for framing. Dale Minard displayed a photo of two Bicycle Card convention cars that are available. He also passed around a list of 3D printing resources. Mike Forys featured an engine driver cap from Great Britain. Raulf Polichar described wagon ruts he encountered in Pompeii Italy which appeared to be a forerunner in gauge to our modern train tracks.
Treasurer’s Report:
Bob Graves reported that we received $293.06 from visitor donations. The expense report reflected the total income was only $1.80 less than total expenses. Bob has created a donation list and he described the latest addition of a 1946 donated train set.
Standards Report:
Raulf Polichar repaired our Liberty Loop Engine which had become unusable after the internals had come loose. Raulf reset our window buttons that had issues. He suggested that we may want him to create a panel that would allow selection of AC or DC operation on Liberty Loop
Publicity Report:
Les Smith discussed the possibility of our club being listed by the San Diego Museum Council.

Bob Graves reported that he added club more meeting dates on the website.
New Clinics:
The call for clinics brought forth a discussion about filming our clinics and displaying them on our TV. Alex Sibbald suggested that we create a camera car from a dummy engine and broadcast its journey around the layout to the TV.
New Gilbert Town Modules:
Rework on the last module is on hold.
Lift Bridge Module Retrofit.
The module has been working with no problems since retrofit rework.
Window Layout Success and Visitor Attendance:
As of 10/13/2018 the window layout button has been pushed 3,486 times since our last meeting, 112,363 times since we installed it at Grossmont Center and 152,185 times since day one.

Future events:
The next meetings will be on Tuesdays, November 20th and December 18th and will be held at our clubhouse (suite 304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10AM.
Lego Update:
A new Lego window display with a space theme will be installed on Friday October 19 in conjunction with the release of the movie First Man.
Window Displays:
Raulf Polichar is working on the new engine for the window display. The Halloween ceramic village has been installed and is attracting visitors of all ages.
Grossmont Activities:
The Lego event in October drew in 750 visitors and was a huge hit with the kids. Halloween will be on a Wednesday and we will be open and participating in the candy handout fun.
Holiday Schedule:
The club voted to open the clubhouse on Sunday during the holiday season. The club is looking for volunteers. Mike Forys will email a proposed calendar covering potential work assignments for the holiday season. The club voted to open on Black Friday during our regular hours.
Sn3 Layout:
The donated layout was dismantled and moved to our clubhouse. It arrived in good condition but is fragile and needs protection from visitors. It will be kept out of sight until ready for viewing. Mike Forys suggested the club organize teams to bring it back to life in its new location. Raulf Polichar suggested we revive it with the original DC control system which we received with the unit.
2019 Calendar:
Mike Forys presented a preliminary 2019 events calendar at this month’s meeting. He is looking for input from the members.
