December 13, 2011 - Meeting Summary
The San Diego S Gaugers held the December club meeting in our clubhouse in Liberty Station. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Raulf Polichar, Bob Graves and Alex Sibbald.
Sad news
Mike received notice of the passing of Ray Hunter on the 12th of December. He was always ready to help out and will be missed.
Show and tell
Mike brought in a number of S Fest West Feather River Mining Company gondolas and Bob brought in some AF trains that he has for sale.
Treasurer’s Report
The treasurer reports the club is still solvent.
Standards
Raulf is pursuing a single control switch for the outer main to switch between DCC, AC or DC and a position for programming engines. He is also searching for led turnout markers to help identify switch positions.
Old Business
GTE Show
The show went well and our layout was well received. We avoided bad weather again this year. Next year we will only allow pre-tested locomotives to be run at the show to avoid troubleshooting in public.
Lift bridge module
We are still pursuing different approaches to the design of this module.
Window Layout
Our window layout is operational and is already getting a workout. It is operational 7/24. We are already discussing enlarging it with a center module measuring about 3.5’. This will give us room for some operational accessories such as a dump car and or mail car.
Club Shirts
Dale and Mike are gathering data for club shirts. Lands End has quoted us and we are reviewing the data.
New Business
Community
In response to Liberty Station’s request, we are pursuing building partitions to screen our slightly unsightly work area from the general public. An Art Teacher from High Tech High has expressed interest in having his class paint a scenic mural on the partitions. He would use acrylic paints that would cost between $200-$300 and the lauan plywood partitions will cost about $200 for materials. Construction is planned for the week between Christmas and New Years.
Meeting dates
The first meeting of the New Year will be held on 1/21/12 at the clubhouse at 2:00pm when we will hold officer elections and collect dues.
We will be hosting the monthly layout visit of the local chapter of the NMRA on Saturday March 10, 2012. The clubhouse will be open for visitors from noon until 3PM.
