July 20, 2017 - Meeting Summary

The San Diego S Gaugers held the July club meeting at our clubhouse (304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10:00am. Attendees were: Alex Sibbald, Mike Forys, Robert Graves, Raulf Polichar, Wes Noel, Al Kiel and Les Smith.

Introduction of new faces / Show and Tell:

Raulf Polichar displayed a resin kit "The Rock" boxcar that he constructed years ago. Wes Noel brought in a new MTH Santa Fe locomotive. Alex Sibbald brought in a recently arrived Lionel S Gauge Docksider Set that will grace the display case to show visitors the availability of S Gauge starter train sets.

Treasurer’s Report:

Bob Graves reported that we received $223.23 from visitor donations in June.

Standards Report:

Raulf Polichar reported that he received material to build switches necessary for modular layout expansion and is working on #5 switches.

Publicity Report:

Les Smith suggested that we prepare an area with San Diego S Gauge signage for visitors to take "selfies".

Old Business:

SDSG Website:

Bob Graves has added photos of the Lego window display and our new Timesaver modules.

PY3.5 (station expansion):

The module has the tracks glued down and is ready for ballast and scenery.

New Gilbert Town Modules:

Two of the three new Gilbert Town modules have been installed on the main layout and scenery has been added. Track is installed on the 5th module and it is ready for scenery. The third module is awaiting a #5 turnout, which should arrive on Tuesday July 25th. The 4th Module retrofitting has been started.

S Curve Module:

The S Curve Module is ready for track and track. Thirty inch radius sweep sticks have arrived.

Window Layout Success and Visitor Attendance:

As of 07/15/2017 the window layout button has been pushed 2,816 times since our last meeting, 62,819 times since we installed it at Grossmont Center and 97,792 times since day one. We are evaluating suggestions to celebrate the day that we hit the 100,000 mark sometime on or about Aug. 5th, 2017. On that day we will remove the Liberty Loop control assembly and insert a new control assembly. It will allow the train to start and stop at the station rather than a preset time period.

New Business:

Future events:

The next meetings will be held on Tuesday Aug 15, 2017 and Tuesday Sept 19, 2017. All meetings will be held at our Suite (304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10AM.

Skyboard painting is scheduled for July 20 through July 25th.

Gilbert Window layout:

The Gilbert Window layout is complete and operating. Derail issues have diminished somewhat by running the trains in the opposite direction. Further improvement may be obtained by increasing spring force under locomotive front trucks. Unattended operation has been suspended until the transformers have been replaced with ones with circuit breakers.
