June 18, 2019 - Meeting Summary

The San Diego S-Gaugers held the June club meeting at our clubhouse (304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10:00am. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Robert Graves, Wes Noel, Don Briggs, Alex Sibbald, Ken Sadlock, Dale Minard and Les Smith.


Introduction of new faces / Show and Tell:

Wes Noel brought in Lion Brewery, a background industrial building that he installed lighting in. Mike Forys displayed the latest Micromart Catalog. Dale Minard passed around a listing of magazines that he has cataloged and a list of missing issues that he is searching for. These lists will be attached to the minutes in PDF format.


Treasurer’s Report:

Robert Graves reported that we received $278.22 from visitor donations in May. He reported that we had a monthly electric bill of $87.05 which is the lowest that we have recorded.


Standards Report:

Raulf Polichar was busy this month installing a window counter on the Streeterville Window Display. He installed 2 can motors on the window Flyer engines and modified the Baldwin locomotive to operate on AC for Liberty Loop. The test track that Raulf constructed is in house and has already seen service. The DCC functionality will be available next.


Publicity Report:

Les Smith created club information handouts initially used for the AGTTA swapmeet.

Old Business:

Website Update:

Robert Graves has uploaded updated window layout photos to the website.


New Clinics:

Wes Noel has scheduled a clinic on LED installations and applications for next month's club meeting.


Streeterville:

The Streeterville layout returned to the window after Easter. This display now has its own

activation button on the outside window and another button inside the main layout. Raulf also

added a counter and Wes Noel replaced the extension cord with permanent wiring. The Flyer

engines are now sporting efficient and reliable DC can motors.


SN3 Addition Status:

The SN3 layout has been moving ahead with the rebuilding of the missing section on the left side. Mike Forys has been recreating the scenery that had been lost before we took possession of the layout. Raulf Polichar has been gathering parts for the sound and control systems. The first power unit is now operational however plans for the addition of background scenery are on hold.


Window Layout Success and Visitor Attendance:

As of 06/15/2019 the Liberty Loop window layout button has been pushed 2,104 times since our last meeting, 131,983 times since we installed it at Grossmont Center and 171,365 times since day one. Numbers include second button activation for two weeks.

Future events:

The next meetings will be on Tuesdays, July 16th and Aug 20th and will be held at our clubhouse (suite 304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10AM.


Grossmont Center / Shop Local Saturday:

The Lego Build Event and Shop Local Saturday will be held on June 29th. The clubhouse will open at 10 AM to support this event.


AGTTA:

The club rented 4 tables at the AGTTA swap meet on the Saturday before Fathers' Day to sell donations. The club net over $400.00 at the event.


Work Day:

The club cancelled the work day this month. Thanks to the members who participated at last month's work day.


Display Box:

Dale Minard has completed work on an eight foot long train display box. He installed it on the wall of the clubhouse.


Documentation:

The club needs to document wiring and construction standards used throughout the layout.
