January 22, 2019 - Meeting Summary
The San Diego S-Gaugers held the January club meeting at our clubhouse (304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10:00am. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Robert Graves, Raulf Polichar, Les Smith, Don Briggs, Alex Sibbald, Wes Noel, Ken Sadlock, Jerry Shiller and Dale Minard.
Introduction of new faces / Show and Tell:
Mike Forys featured a wooden locomotive that he built from a ROKR kit. He also brought in a railroad themed clock. Both items were gifts. Wes Noel displayed a Packard Diner that he built. Ken Sadlock presented a picture of a deserted New Jersey station that he framed. Bob Graves brought in a donated Flyer rocket launching car that he repaired.
Treasurer’s Report:
Robert Graves reported that we received $582.45 from visitor donations. He reported that we had a monthly electric bill of $112.99.
Standards Report:
Raulf Polichar brought in a HO/SN3 test track that he constructed in order to evaluate operation of train engines. Raulf and Mike used it to test several SN3 brass Shay engines that had belonged to the builder of our SN3 Lumber Layout. They determined that 3 of the engines worked and bought the lot. Raulf also reported that we now have replacement radio buttons for our unmanned window layouts.
Publicity Report:
Les Smith announced that the car club that he belongs to is planning a train trip to the Peterson
Auto Museum on February 17th. SDSG Members are invited to join them and the transportation costs $10.00 a person.
Old Business:
New Clinics:
No new clinic ideas were suggested.
New Gilbert Town Modules:
Rework on the last module is on hold.
SN3 Addition Status.
The donated SN3 layout is being stabilized by Dale Minard. He has built the support and straightened the rear of the layout. Mike and Raulf bought the engines that had been used on the layout. Raulf set up the test track and displayed the operation of one of the engines.
Window Layout Success and Visitor Attendance:
As of 01/19/2019 the window layout button has been pushed 2,891 times since our last meeting, 120,035 times since we installed it at Grossmont Center and 161,357 times since day one.
New Business:
Future events:
The next meetings will be on Tuesdays, February 19 and March 19 and will be held at our clubhouse (suite 304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10AM.
Grossmont Center / Lego Build Update:
The Lego Build days will now be held on the last Saturday on even numbered months for a total of 6 Lego Days this year. The club will also support the shopping center and open at 10:00 on the last Saturday of every month to participate in the shop local market promotion.
Window Displays:
Raulf Polichar has the paint to paint the new engine for the window display.
Test Track:
The club will be building a multi-gauge test track due to many requests from visitors who have non-operating trains in other gauges and don't know where to turn for testing and advice. Member suggestions included track and power options.
Dues:
2019 dues were collected from several members.
Elections:
Club officer elections for 2019 were held at the January meeting. Current officers were elected for another year.
Traffic Signals:
Mike Forys passed around literature from a British Company describing traffic signals which are planned to be installed on several of our layouts.
