Layout Possibilities
Here are some examples of layouts that the Krause corner design enables us to construct.
A variation of the Krause corner with a turnout to a tangential straight line on the outer rail line enables us to construct a dogbone layout. Bob's module blocks show that we need a 7.5 inch spacer module in each loop.
Another variation on the Krause corner is a straight module with a turnout on the inner rail line to a curve that complies to the Krause design. Such a module enables us to construct a block-8 layout with a staging area rail yard or something else in the middle.
Combine that with the dogleg "L" and you begin to create some interesting layouts!
Cut a Krause module in half and you can put a 45-degree corner on a layout. Again, Bob's module blocks show that we one or more spacer modules.
Those half-Krause modules would also enable us to create a lollipop end for a layout with back-to-back modules where club members walk around outside the layout, mingling with visitors.
Combine that with two Krause modules and you have an L with a lollipop on each end.
Interestingly, Bob's module blocks seem to say that back-to-back 30-inch modules wouldn't require the spacer modules that you need to put 24-inch modules back-to-back. We'll have to check that out on the higher precision of the CAD program!
Or we could make a U with lollipops on each end. With two U layouts, we create an S. The possibilities are endless!!! Would you believe a layout that snakes its way through and around a huge train show?
