August 23, 2014 - Meeting Summary
The San Diego S Gaugers held the August club meeting at the home of Wes Noel. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Bob Graves, Dale Minard, Alex Sibbald, Wes Noel, Raulf Polichar, Ken Sadlock, and Les Smith.
Show and Tell:
Raulf Polichar displayed his new s-scale ruler. Les Smith shared his new book of trains.
Treasurer’s Report:
Bob Graves reported that we took in $30.40 in clubhouse donations during July.
Standards Report:
Raulf Polichar reported that he was working to upgrade the DCC power unit for programming DCC engines on layout track in addition to the piece of track on the power unit. He believes that we should add an additional 12VDC power supply to enable us to split the load on the layout into 2 sections each with its own supply. This should solve the 12VDC low voltage problem. There is also a problem to repair on the 12VDC buss on PY1.
Publicity Report:
Dale Minard reported that the club was featured in the August/September 2014 issue of the NASG Dispatch.
Old Business:
Module access:
Although the modules are in storage, they are accessible for repair/upgrade etc.
SDSG Website:
Bob is going to add a visitor counter to the Website with Dales assistance.
DCC Clinic:
Wes Noel conducted a clinic today on the installation of DCC components in flyer steam engines. Dale Minard said he would conduct a clinic on decals at a future meeting. Raulf added he may include dry transfer decals at the same time.

The next monthly meeting of 2014 will be hosted by Bob Graves on the 27th of September. The October meeting is scheduled to be hosted by Les Smith on October 25th..
PSR Regional Convention:
The PSR Regional Convention runs from Sept 3 thru Sept 7. Mike Forys presented an anticipated schedule for the transportation of the layout to and from the convention hall at the Marriott Courtyard in Mission Valley. Probable layout size is 33 X 14. Exhibitor badges will be issued to those who are operating the layout but not attending the convention.
New Clubhouse Search:
We are searching for a new clubhouse. The ideal size would be 40 X 50 but we could squeeze into 40 X 35. Mike Forys and Dale Minard have crafted a single page flyer describing the clubhouse that we desire. All members are encouraged to look for possible facilities to host our clubhouse. Mike, Bob, and Raulf have been investigating the feasibility of becoming a 501(C)3 non-profit organization in order to attract a host for our clubhouse.
A motion was made, seconded and passed for Mike and Raulf to investigate the possibility of piggy backing onto the 501(c)3 of SDRMR.
Two members of AGTTA and three board members of SDSG met at Mike’s house to discuss a joint effort to find clubhouse space.
Reverse Corner:
Mike Forys presented sketches of several layouts that could be achieved with the addition of a couple of reverse corners. The dimensional data of the reverse corners is being reviewed.
Holiday Bowl Parade:
Les Smith is going to look into a way of our club participating in the Holiday Bowl parade as balloon handlers.
