2008 Great Train Expo

The Great Train Expo was a national traveling model railroading show held annually in cities throughout the United States. It was held each December at the Del Mar Fairgrounds just north of San Diego, California.

The San Diego S-Gaugers achieved their goal of having a modular layout complete and ready for the show. We packed up the modules in three pickup trucks and a sports car and drove up to the Fairgrounds to set up in the prime central location we had been assigned.

Mike and Alex positioned, leveled and clamped the modules while Peter and Bob connected the bridge rails between modules.

Next Mike and Alex connected the electrical cabling between modules and set up the control panel.

Next came the drapes around the base.

A little touch-up and installation of buildings and accessories ...

And the club logo on both ends.

The end result: the San Diego S-Gaugers' modular layout setup and ready for the opening of the show.

Throughout the show, the layout worked reliably and was well received by the public and members of other clubs as well.

In addition to our layout, the club brought Bob's module design blocks. Children and adults like moved them around to create layouts of their own design.
