September 21, 2021 - Meeting Summary

The San Diego S-Gaugers held the September club meeting at our clubhouse. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Ken Sadlock, Robert Graves, Les Smith, Scott Lewis, Dale Minard, Don Briggs, Wes Noel, Len Carapezza and Alex Sibbald.

Introduction of new faces / Show and Tell:

Ken Sadlock displayed several boxes of trains, track, books and CDs which were donated to the club by a family who had lost a train-loving family member.


Treasurer's Report:

This month Bob Graves reported $297.63 from clubhouse visitor donations in August.

Standards Report:

The Liberty Loop doorbell button was stolen again for the fifth time. Discussion followed.

Publicity Report:

Les Smith is preparing Halloween Junior Engineer badges for the upcoming holiday.

Old Business:

Website Update:

Update is nearly complete. Google is changing platform for web sites which requires expanding all thumbnail pictures.


New Clinics:

SN3 Addition Status:

Mike Forys reported that the recreated left end is too short to display one of the buildings. The building will have to be shortened.

Window Layout Success and Visitor Attendance:

As of 09/18/2021 the Window Layout Button 1 has been pushed 1,690 times and Window Layout Button 2 has been pushed 2,000 times for a total of 3,690 times since August 14th or 196,412 times since we first installed one at Grossmont Center and 236,940 times since day one.

New Business:

Operating Session:

Mike Forys suggested that if anyone is interested in hosting an operating session to contact him. It would be limited to vaccinated club members.

Future events:

The next meetings will be on Tuesdays, October 19th, 2021 and November 16th 2021 and will be held at our clubhouse and on Zoom. The club voted to move the December meeting from the 21st to the 7th. Grossmont Center will be passing out candy again this year on Halloween Sunday from 11AM until 1PM. The club voted to open from 11AM until 4PM for this event. To accommodate social distancing, we will put a table outside for candy distribution.

Clubhouse:

Liberty Loop is sporting a new fall themed centerpiece constructed by Dale Minard. Dale will also change out the contents of the front display case for October. The club voted to change the Plasticville display to the Halloween Display.

Club Mural:

It was suggested that we change the theme of our pastoral mural to a boxcar. If someone else has another scene idea for the mural please let Mike Forys know.


Lego Day:

The date of the next Lego Day will be in October at the earliest.

Train Direction:

It would require repairing several turnouts and modifying the new signal/pedestrian bridge.

Club Business:

Mike Forys reported that a change to our email address would require a change to our bylaws. It was suggested that we add non-discrimination wording at the same time and the change was postponed until next month in order to accomplish the addition.

Other Items:

Mike Forys suggested that we form a planning committee 2025 to study possible action plans in case Grossmont Center ownership changes affect the club in the future.

Scott Lewis suggested that we track member clubhouse attendance for future reference. Mike will add initial block to sign up sheet and retain sheets.
