November 21, 2023 - Meeting Summary

The San Diego S-Gaugers held the October club meeting at our clubhouse and on Zoom. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Ken Sadlock, Robert Graves, Don Briggs, Alex Sibbald, Scott Lewis, Paul De Laurell, Raulf Polichar, Les Smith, Dale Minard and John Racey.

Introduction of New Faces / Show and Tell:

Mike Forys passed around a new Scale Trains Fish belly Hopper that he just received. Ken Sadlock displayed a Lionel Canadian Pacific Locomotive that he found for sale for only $10.

Treasurer's Report:

Bob Graves reported that the club received visitor cash donations totaling $352.79 in October, the highest October amount in club history, with $24.23 of it coming from Venmo. The club showed a net gain of $83.10 after expenses.

Standards Report:

Raulf Polichar reported that the Liberty Loop RS3 Locomotive had developed an open coil in the motor that he replaced.

Library Report:

Dale Minard is working to obtain Train Shed Encyclopedia and Railway Prototype Encyclopedia.

Window Layout Success and Visitor Attendance:

Mike Forys reported that from October 14th 2023 to November 18th 2023 the window buttons have been pushed 5,071 times. Windows 1=3,024 Windows 2 =2,047, average 144.9 per day over 35 days.

Grossmont total (beginning Feb, 2016) = 296,300

Day one (beginning May, 2011) total = 335,858

Visitor Total since February 1, 2016 = 87,811

Club Mural:

The Mural barn door is ready for barn door hardware. The five mural panels have had rivets glued in place. Mural is now ready for painting and strengthening so it can carry the weight of the barn door.

Lego Days:

The next Lego Build Day will be December 16th, 2023.

Future Events:

The next meetings will be on Tuesdays, December 19th, 2023 and January 16th 2024 and will be held at our clubhouse and on Zoom.

Main Layout:

A circus display has been located on the S curve temporarily until the permanent town is completed.

Window Displays:

The Halloween window display will be replaced by the Christmas snow covered layout.

The Toboggan Run centerpiece has replaced the Fort Rosecrans Memorial Cemetery display on the Liberty Loop layout.

2024 Preliminary Calendar:

The 2024 calendar will be changed to reflect the NMRA quarterly meeting and work day

Halloween:

Grossmont Center had its annual Halloween candy giveaway on Tuesday, October 31st. Our counter showed about 1,150 visitors. We gave out 1,100 pieces of candy. So,

the number of people that actually came in was probably 2,500.

NMRA:

The NMRA had reached out to us about the possibility of SDSG hosting a NMRA quarterly meeting at our clubhouse. The members voted to host the event which will be held on February 10th, 2024. Mike Forys will schedule a work day on February 8th 2024 to prepare the clubhouse.

Mike Forys collected all the member's NMRA membership date and membership number at the meeting.

Front Wall Display:

Mike Forys will be setting up his display of Christmas Boxcars.
