August 24, 2013 - Meeting Summary
The San Diego S Gaugers held the August club meeting in our clubhouse in Liberty Station. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Bob Graves, Dale Minard, Alex Sibbald, Raulf Polichar, Ken Sadlock, Don Briggs and Les Smith.
Show and Tell:
Dale Minard displayed a new t-shirt now available with our logo from Lands End. Dale also completed a fine wall cabinet this month to hold our pull out modules for the window display. Raulf Polichar brought in a very nice brass USRA Switcher. He also presented potential molex-style connectors for our Fulgurex switch motors. Future plans incorporate a change to momentary contacts in order for us to incorporate dual switch control using toggle switches and remote control with TMCC or DCC.
Treasurer’s Report:
Bob Graves reported that we took in $142.83 in clubhouse donations during July.
Standard’s report:
All the modules are now equipped with pins and sockets for ease of alignment. Some transitions still need some work. PY4 and GS4 have had track irregularities removed.
Old Business:
PY2.0:
The track 7 turnout switch motor is being modified.
PY2.5
This module still needs switch control motor and clouds. (on-hold)
Lift bridge module
Wine tasting room is in the planning stage.
Window Layout:
Our activity counter has recorded a total of 1202 hits in the last month.
Upgrade SDSG Website:
Our Webmaster, Bob Graves, reported that items have been added to the web site including the Lands End ordering sheet & Member project section.
Window Scenery Update:
The Up the Creek Canoe and Boat shop is now lit and canoes have appeared. The lake is defined and the culverts have been added to allow water to pass under the track. More landscaping has been done.
Open House July 27:
This open house was cancelled.
Donated Trains:
Bob Graves reported that some of the donated items have been sold and we gained $89.62.
New Business:
PSR Layout Tour:
We are set up to be on the PSR San Diego Layout Tour on June 13th, 2014, which is the second Saturday in June.
GTE 2013:
We will be using our two test modules to increase the width of our modular layout by 4 feet at this year’s GTE show. Landscaping needs to be done on both modules.
SDMRM Labor Day Visit:
Teardown of the modular layout will take place on Wednesday, August 28. We will be transporting and setting up on Thursday and operating at the SDMRM Friday thru Monday. Tear down and transport will begin after 4PM on Monday. Setup back at the clubhouse will be on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
Membership dues proposal:
A proposal to change the date from September 1st to August 1st for when dues paid by a new member would include next year’s dues was voted on and defeated.
Future events:
The future monthly meetings will be held on Sept 21, Oct 26, and Nov 16, 2013. Our next open house will be on Oct. 19, 2013.
Instructions:
Instructions for operating the GS4 power station have been updated and posted on the back of the sky board.
Start up and shut down procedures for the DCC controller are being written.
A list of engine numbers, which have been loaded into DCC controllers, have been posted on the back of PY1.
