January 19, 2013 - Meeting Summary


The San Diego S Gaugers held the January club meeting in our clubhouse in Liberty Station. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Raulf Polichar, Alex Sibbald, Bob Graves, Dale Minard, Al Keil and Ken Sadlock.


Introduction of new faces:

SDSG members welcomed our latest member, Ken Sadlock who saw our layout at the GTE show in December. Ken is reviving his American Flyer Trains from his youth and joined us today for our train repair session held before our club meeting. Raulf brought in two S-Scale painted brass steam locomotives for us to salivate over. One was a Mohawk and the other was a Niagara.

Treasurer’s Report:

Bob Graves reported that we took in $102.14 in clubhouse donations in December in addition to our show participation honorarium of $150 and visitor show donations of $16.

Standards report:

Raulf Polichar reported on a proposed system for precision alignment of modules during layout assembly. The plan would cost approximately $250 when complete. The club members voted to approve $50 for materials to pursue this endeavor.


Old Business:

PY4/PY5 Passing Siding:

The siding is now operational and ballasting is 95% complete.

PY2.0:

This module needs a switch control motor.

Lift bridge module:

The Lift Bridge module is moving along nicely. The lift section is operational and some wiring has been accomplished. Mike Forys and Dale Minard have been instrumental in this progress.

Window Layout:

Our activity counter recorded 1169 hits since last month’s meeting. The total amount of hits since May is over 7500.

Upgrade SDSG Website:

Bob has upgraded the calendar on the site.

U Channel discussion:

We received the shipment of U Channel necessary to complete the layout. Work is in process to use the U Channel around angles as well as on the straight sections.


New Business:

World’s Greatest Hobby Show:

Setup on Friday 02/08/13 from 8AM until 8PM. Show hours will be until 6PM on Saturday and 5PM on Sunday. NASG booth support will require 3 persons. The Southern California S Gauge Club has provided names of persons who will be available to help to man the NASG booth. Lionel Fastrack sectional track has been received and tested for operation in the NASG booth. We will be receiving literature and table covers from NASG. The new MTH catalog will be available at the show as well as American Model’s catalog. The Lionel AF catalog will be 36 pages and should be available as well.

Club Elections:

The San Diego S Gauge Club held our yearly election for club officers. A motion was made to re-elect the current officers and it was seconded and passed unanimously. The officers are:

Future events:

Future meetings are scheduled for Feb 23 and Mar 23. Our next open house will be on March 16.
