May 22, 2018 - Meeting Summary
The San Diego S-Gaugers held the May club meeting at our clubhouse (304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10:00am. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Robert Graves, Raulf Polichar, Ken Sadlock, Les Smith, Wes Noel, Al Keil, Dale Minard and Alex Sibbald.
Introduction of new faces / Show and Tell:
Mike Forys displayed an article about the history of the Big Boy Locomotive. Dale Minard brought in an S-Spree Air Force Boxcar and an East Coast Oil Co. Tanker.
Treasurer’s Report:
Bob Graves stated that we received $236.40 from visitor donations and a reported that another train donation should arrive on Saturday.
Standards Report:
Raulf Polichar reported that he and Mike are installing easy swap out turnout motors which can be unplugged and replaced. They are elongating pass thru holes and adjusting switch throws. He discussed several turnout projects that are in the works including jigs for motors and turnout motor repair.
Publicity Report:
Les Smith stated that the American Flyer Celebration Day could be accomplished in August when he is available.

New Gilbertown Modules:
Rework on the last module is ongoing.
Lift Bridge Module Retrofit.
Mike Forys reported that retrofit rework has improved the lift bridge module and replacing 2 short sections of track should finish up the rework project.
Window Layout Success and Visitor Attendance:
As of 05/19/2018 the window layout button has been pushed 3,685 times since our last meeting, 96,667 times since we installed it at Grossmont Center and 132,549 times since day one.

Future events:
The next meetings will be on Tuesdays, June 19, 2018 and July 17th and will be held at our clubhouse (suite 304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10AM.
Work Session:
A work session to realign track interfaces and other tasks will be held Thursday May 31st at 10:00am at the Grossmont center clubhouse. A reminder email will be sent out.
Window Displays:
Raulf Polichar has completed modifying and painting the 2nd Baldwin Switcher currently a backup for the Liberty Loop Layout.
Grossmont Activities:
The next Lego build day is on July 21st. Mike will be out of town from 7/19 until 7/28.
PSR Convention:
The convention will be held 9/12 to 9/16 2018 at Courtyard by Marriott Mission Valley. Our Time Saver Module will be featured at the event. Other displays have been suggested.
Timesaver:
Dale Minard suggested that we use the timesaver module to entice kids to earn an award for completing the timesaver switching module puzzle. The limitations of the docksider locomotives were discussed and the club voted to purchase 2 new locomotives and swap them for the 2 Baldwin Switchers currently in use on the Liberty Loop Layout. The Baldwin Switchers have the proper qualities for the Timesaver Module. It was also decided to replace the two power switches with industrial grade switches.
Operating Sessions:
Dale Minard brought in a sample of switch indicator assembly that could be used to illuminate the position of each turnout. This would enhance operation sessions which will commence on Tuesday May 29th.
