We find ourselves at the end of what has been quite a chaotic term in regards to student and staff absences related to COVID and, more recently, to 'flu. It has not been an easy time but I do want to acknowledge the efforts of both teachers and students to make the most of the time we have had over this term.
I am very aware that many senior students are concerned about their current credit levels and I have been working hard, along with other Principals, to push the Ministry of Education and NZQA to make a decision on the issuing of recognition credits. The lack of information and decision making around these credits is causing a high level of anxiety for students and teachers at a time that is more difficult to navigate than when we were in complete lockdowns. I will alert teachers, students and whānau as soon as more information is forthcoming on this matter.
We recognise that rolling year levels home has not been ideal around the continuity of learning that we would have hoped to have in place at this time of year. We wish to commence Term 3 with all year levels returning to a normal programme and we are hoping that we can sustain this through until seniors leave in Term 4. While this may not be possible, we will do out utmost to make this happen.
My sincere thanks to Joanna Devane, Tamsin Dashfield-Speight and other staff who helped organise the 2022 ŌC Variety Concert. Due to suffering from 'flu I was unable to attend, but the feedback I received was incredibly positive, particularly around the high degree of talent that our students displayed over the course of the evening. I have since been able to go online and view the concert and all the accolades are certainly deserved.
Well done to all the participants - great effort!
In closing, I wish you all the very best for a restful and healthy holiday break and I look forward to seeing growing numbers of students returning for Term 3, which is a critical one, particularly for our seniors.
Kia kaha, kia māia, kia manawanui
