On Friday 26 May, the Level 3 PE class and the Level 2/3 Sport Studies class travelled down to Wainuiomata to take on the Tough Guy and Gal 6km Mud Run race.
This was an exceptional group of young people. They battled it out as the course took them off road, through the bush; navigating streams, obstacles, a mud pit and to quote one of our boys “The biggest hill I have ever seen in my life”.
However, this did not deter the fierce competitors from ŌC, 2023 saw our fastest group home across the finish line.
Angus Davis (Year 12) took a podium position as 3rd Senior boy home, winning himself a bronze medal and an invitation to compete at the National Event in Rotorua in August.
As the prize winner announcements continued, there was an eruption of excitement from our Ōtaki College group as three of our senior boys were called out:
Angus Davis, Sam Georgetti and JT Byrne - these boys (as a team) won The Toughest School. Collectively they were the fastest 3 runners home from all the schools competing. Angus came 4th Overall, Sam was 6th Overall and JT was 15th Overall, (from 1143 finishers).
A huge Congratulations to these boys, the fastest group we have ever taken across to this event. I would also like to congratulate and acknowledge all our students who went to the Tough Guy & Gal and gave a massive effort in this event. It was an exceptional day. - Well done.
