Rose grew up in Ōtaki and attended Otaki College. She is of Te Arawa/Ngāti Tuara ki Ngāti Raukawa ki te tonga descent. Completing her BBmedSc at Victoria in 2012, Rose then spent two years as an English teacher in Japan. Returning to NZ, Rose commenced study for her Honours, then Masters degrees completing her MSc in 2019. Throughout her time at Victoria, Rose has tutored for Te Rōpu Awhina, and was awarded Tu Horomata scholarships in 2016 and 2017. Her Masters research was on treatment resistance in glioblastoma. Rose is currently working at Columbia University, New York, researching the use of stem cells for lung regeneration.
