This year we had nine students that completed their Work Ready Passports with Work Ready Kāpiti. They were: Finley Stevenson, Hunter Austin, Keegan Ryan, Matthew Brooker, Damien Doyle, Tayla Ashman, Nicolle Ashman, Robson Chapman and Tamatehura Tidd.
This required them completing information on the 13 areas in their Work Ready passports eg. personal wellness, life skills, communication, academic achievements, managing your money, drug free, work experience, ability to work as part of a team, understanding health and safety at work, drivers licence, targeted CV. They were then interviewed by two employers about their knowledge and skills in these different areas.
Feedback from one of the employers about the students that he interviewed:
"I felt the students that I spoke to were well motivated, positive, had a good sense of self and a sound knowledge of potential career pathways. They all were in part time employment or work experience that gave some degree of financial independence. They also had a mature attitude and were knowledgeable of the potential of savings plans."
The students were presented with their Work Ready Passports and certificates at the Work Ready Kāpiti Annual Awards night at the Southwards Car Museum on 5 November. Oriwa Jury sang to guests on their arrival and Frankie Vidulich entertained guests during supper afterwards. Both girls did a splendid job and we thank Mrs Devane for her support during the evening.
Damien Doyle also received an award for the Best Kāpiti Work Ready Passport (Damien was unable to attend the Awards Ceremony as he was away on his final Outdoor Education Trip).
Work Ready Kāpiti said that "Damien stood out this year with achieving the highest score, as well as excelling in his interview to pass the Work Ready programme. Damien was described as a considerate, mindful, articulate and quietly confident young man who no doubt will go far". Damien has recently gained an apprenticeship with Pzazz Building. An ex student Nick Fleming was jointly awarded the Most Innovative Kāpiti Youth Job Seeker for 2020. Well done, Damien and Nick!
