Many Year 10 students took the opportunity to attend a STAR taster day at UCOL in PN recently. During the day the students were able to attend five different practical workshops for 45 minutes each.
I attended the trades workshops with one of our groups and I thought that the automotive and collision repair workshops were both excellent. A good mix of information and hands on activities were provided for the students, and the staff involved in them were all awesome.
The students also said that they particularly enjoyed the forensic science, construction/joinery, electrical engineering, sports science, hair and beauty, and hospitality sessions.
I thinks these days are very worthwhile for our Year 10 students both to give them an insight into what a tertiary provider looks and feels like, and also what types of courses they can offer.
