Rural Health Visit L1 Science 12/4/24
It was the last day of the term and pouring down with rain, when the rural health team came to visit.
They told us about the types of health studies they have each done, ranging from dentistry to midwifery, dietician, nursing and doctoring.
Each member of the 8 person team explained what was involved in their chosen field, what is needed and some of the great aspects of their work.
Midwives have the joy of supporting wahine through what can be the scariest but also most rewarding times of their lives.
Dentists start earning close to $100 000 per year, while dieticians help us eat better and thus improve our overall health.
The classes were then divided into four groups where they worked through various sessions:
How to save a live: CPR, finding and using an AED and the signs of a heart attack
Dietician: investigating your ‘poo’: what does your ‘poo’ type tell us about your digestive and overall health.
Blood pressure: what is this, why is it important and how do we measure it?
Dentist: general oral care and the making/fitting of teeth molds for making braces.
An informative and thought provoking time for our Year 11 students as we finish off the term for Science.
