On Friday 24th November 40 of our Year 10 students participated in the STAR Taster Day at UCOL in PN. They were able to choose from 3 different programmes on the day and rotated around 5 different interactive workshops which were 45 minutes long.
Following are student comments on why they enjoyed particular workshops:
Nursing - because we were able to take pulses, heart rates and blood pressure etc. plus we learnt how to wash our hands properly,
Hospitality - it was fun making mocktails and having free pizza,
Automotive - we learnt how to take a tyre off more efficiently,
Hair and beauty - the hands on activities were fun,
Textiles - we got to create some designs for a tote bag,
Mechanical Engineering - we learnt how to use a mig welder,
Early Childhood - we got to make flower head accessories and look after baby dolls,
Vet Nursing - we learnt how to notice if your pets are sad.
Thanks to the staff that accompanied the students on what we felt was a very worthwhile day.
