The Wellington regional Smokefree Rockquest event was held recently at Sacred Heart College in Lower Hutt, where two of Ōtaki College's bands competed to place in the top twelve out of sixty bands. The two bands, New Generation (consisting of Taleah Falamoe, Lily El Kour, and Pierre Lange-Gerrard), and The Funky Sevens (Alex Osano, Carys Watkins, Ben Cranson, Carol Luu, Braeden Butters, Hunter Denzel, Faith Harris) played an original song each but unfortunately did not make the top twelve. "It was an excellent learning experience," said Alex, "and I can't wait to compete again next year."
For Taleah and Pierre, this was their last competition at Rockquest, with Pierre formerly being a member of Powercut last year. Taleah said "Rockquest was a fun experience for me. I felt calmer with my friends Pierre and Lily by my side. I was happy to perform at the Smokefree Rockquest and showcase the music we had worked hard on. The atmosphere was lively, and it felt great to be part of such a creative event." And from Pierre - "It's been great to perform these last few years, and while I'm sad about the outcome of this year's competition, I'm happy to call this my best one."
