Guest Speaker, Keeley O'Hagan
It was a privilege to welcome Keeley O'Hagan as our guest speaker at Prizegiving. Ms O'Hagan attended Ōtaki College in the mid-late 2000s. Since leaving, she has graduated with a BA in Criminology and Anthropology and a BAppSc in Human Nutrition. Keeley is a registered nutritionist working in two fields: children's nutrition and sports nutrition. Keeley is also the third-time NZ women's high jump champion, 4th all-time best NZ women's high jumper and placed 6th at this year's Commonwealth games.
Keeley reminded students of:
(1) the importance of how friends can support each other in tough times
(2) keeping hope: that despite challenges and hard times, there is a way through
(3) setting, talking through and visualising your goals are all important steps to see them accomplished
(4) the importance of talking 'up' and visualising ourselves accomplishing great things
(5) how eating well and thinking well does help us take on life's challenges
(6) the fact that our success is not defined by the outcome (or tests/competitions), but by how we manage the process of becoming the best we can be.
Our thanks to Keeley for sharing some of the more challenging moments of her career with us in order to reinforce these messages.
