On 30 August I had the incredible opportunity to attend the OnBeingBold Dreaming Big event in Wellington, especially designed for year 13 girls. OnBeingBold is an inspirational online collective developed by women for women to, “share the personal life journeys & career experiences of prominent Kiwi women.” The event was a no charge, food provided, full day which was packed with fun activities, inspirational speakers, engaging interviews and spot prizes that kept the energy high. An amazing lineup of speakers with Black Fern athletes, politicians, artists, the founders of sharesies and many more. Each speaker shared captivating obstacles and turns they took which led them to their respective fields. It motivated me to hear how these incredibly strong and successful women began their journeys in all different backgrounds, ages and circumstances yet they all found areas in which they thrive. The atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming, I left the event not just with new friendships of other girls attending, but also with inspiration from the diverse stories I had heard. The day was a powerful reminder that no matter how different our paths may be from one another, there is always a place for all of us in this world and how hard work cannot fail you in finding somewhere thats right for you. As a young woman who is about to leave home and is not sure what path to take, I found the OnBeingBold Dreaming Big event extremely helpful and reassuring that there are so many different options and things I can do with my life. Although it was only the second event they’d held in Wellington, it was incredibly well formulated with such a range of stories and knowledge passed around. I’m so grateful to have gone and I hope more Ōtaki girls will get to enjoy the OnBeingBold Dreaming Big events in future years.
