Ōtaki College entered the Epic Blue Burgers into the 2022 Manawatū region of the Bandquest competition. This is an annual event run by Smokefreerockquest for bands with students up to Year 8 in it. Epic Blue Burgers is made up of Jessica Tahiwi-Filimaua (Vocals), Jacob Grindrod (Drums), Ruby Rasmussen (Vocals/Bass Guitar), Carys Watkins (Vocals/Guitar), and Scott Eastwood (Percussion). Epic Blue Burgers performed Horse with no name by America and picked up the Rockstar Styles Award - for dressing as cowboys to fit with their song, and Carys won the Musicianship award. We were really proud of them and they did a wonderful job of representing the college with pride.
Year 7 students, Ruby Rasmussen and Carys Watkins, who have qualified for the Regional Junior Swimming Champs. This will be held at the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre next weekend.
Ruby has qualified for 9 races and Carys for 8 races. Both train and swim for our local club Ōtaki Titans. Good luck to them both.
Mahau was developed alongside Mana Whenua to help more people speak and understand our local dialects of te reo in Wellington. It's a free, simple, interactive app to help people in/or visiting Wellington to get started on their reo journey. Mahau will help the beginner with te reo words and pronunciation of everyday phrases and sentences, as wll as Wellington destinations and placenames. It will also help the user to build their pepeha & mihimihi.
The app will be launched on 23 September and will be available from the app store from that date or soon after.
