A highlight of the term were the annual Kāpiti Island trips that Year 9 students undertake after completing their study on the island’s history and land use. The unpredictable weather caused a few postponements, but most students didn’t mind as they knew it would be a fun adventure once they were able to go. The boat trips over to the island were a highlight. Once we arrived we were greeted with the friendly smiles of our guide for the day.
The walk up to the lookout was a test of fitness levels as we huffed and puffed our way to top with its vista of the ocean. We fueled ourselves with packed lunches to make our descent. Back on the boat students were exhausted but exhilarated by all they had heard and seen.
We wish to thank the team at Kāpiti Island Nature Tours and all teachers and parent volunteers who made this an unforgettable trip.
