The week before Lockdown, Tikardan Tahiwi-Stowers attended an interview for a place on the Mātauranga Māori Scholarship programme, which is administered by Horowhenua District Council in partnership with Muaūpoko Tribal Authority Inc.
The interview panel was made up of Horowhenua Mayor, Bernie Wanden, Muaupoko Tribal Authority Board Member, Tracey White and Asli Crawford, Water and Waste Services Manager HDC. Tikardan was thrilled to receive the news last week that she had been accepted into the programme.
This is an undergraduate scholarship to resource Mātauranga Māori and was offered as part of the Three Waters Reform Stimulus Fund. Funding was allocated to Horowhenua District Council to administer a scholarship for affiliated iwi and hapū within the Horowhenua District. The purpose of the scholarship is to build capability and capacity in Three Waters.
The focus is on water, wastewater, stormwater and environmental management. The undergraduate tertiary studies are to be in the following disciplines:
- Environmental Science/Planning
- Environmental Engineering
- Process Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- A Bachelor of Science majoring in any Three Waters related discipline.
Tikardan must now decide which branch of study she will undertake and which University she will attend.
