Kia ora koutou. The Kaihautū team has met and looked at our student monitoring cards and we have made some changes. Here’s what you need to know. Please also refer to the Infographic that summarises how the revised system works.
Any students who are placed on a card will be contacted by the issuing teacher. We would like to introduce a points system with these cards. If students are not meeting their obligations then they will need to complete a callback/community service. Callback days will be after school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. There will, however, be some instances when a callback may need to be completed at a different time, depending on the need; issuing teachers can make this call, in consultation with whānau. Teachers who place students on callback will need to let the student know when and how long this callback will be. It is an expectation that teachers would make contact with whānau to let them know if a student is placed on callback particularly if the ākonga is a bus student, or needs to leave school promptly.
We would like to encourage all students to take ownership of their behaviour and responsibility for their actions. The maximum amount of time for a callback would be 40 minutes. If students lose a card, then the call back time will be the maximum time of 40 minutes; the minimum callback time will be 15 minutes.
Each wātaka (including Kaiārahi time), teachers will give students a grade (see below).
Blue Attendance Cards
3 = On Time (Hooray!)
2 = Late ≤10 minutes (Almost there!)
1 = Late 11-29 minutes (Try to be quicker!)
0 = Late 30+ minutes (Oh no! Let’s do better! What support do you need?)
Yellow Attitude & Behaviour RŌAR Cards
3 = Well done! Meeting R.Ō.A.R expectations
2 = Almost there, keep going!
1 = Don’t give up, try again!
0 = Little to no effort; What support do you need?
Students need to score at least 16 out of 18 points.
At the end of the day students are to drop their cards off to Matua Jarrad’s office or into the Student Centre if he is not available. They must remember to collect their card the next school day.
The revised system aims to foster responsibility and improve student behaviour through structured monitoring and consistent follow-up.
If you feel like your child needs support, please ask them to talk to their kaiārahi teacher, Te Puna Aroha Staff, or any of the Kaihautū Team or SLT.
I am more than happy to talk through any pātai. Thank you for your continued support. Together, we make a difference.
Nāku, me te mihi,
Matua Jarrad
