In June, Aaron Taranchokov had a work experience placement at GTB IT Solutions in Paraparaumu. This was organised through Work Ready Kapiti.
Aaron was there for three days, and was able to gain experience with sitting in on client presentations, as well as practical applications with p.c builds and an introduction to software engineering.
Through this experience, Aaron was able to gain an understanding as to how his education can be applied in the business world.
Aaron's reflection on the work experience follows:
"I found work experience really interesting as I found out things about my desired path that I didn’t know about previously and could help me to achieve my goal to get there. While I was there everyone was extremely friendly and was always asking if I needed help or needed something explained to me and when I asked for help always properly explained it. They explained a lot about what they do, and how their business works which I personally found interesting. I also got to sit in on a meeting one of them had with a client and got to see that side of their business as well."
Work Ready Kāpiti has two other programmes (besides the WEX - work experience one that Aaron was involved in). They are: Kāpiti Work Ready Passport and Employer Meets.
The Work Ready Passport is aimed at assisting youth in developing key skills to ensure they are work ready. It includes 10 employer identified work ready skills. Interviews for this will take place at Ōtaki College on Wednesday 29 September. Employer Meets are aimed at facilitating connections between Kāpiti youth and employers. The one being held at Ōtaki College is on Thursday 16 September. All senior students are welcome to attend.
