The Ministry of Education have informed the College that they have undertaken the required consultation. There was no negative feedback given through this process which means that moving forward the enrolment zone will be put in place at the commencement of Term One, 2022.
I will be continuing to work with the Ministry of Education and key BoT members to work through the legalities of implementing the scheme and will keep you notified as further information transpires.
Following our consultation with whānau, the feedback strongly reflects a desire to maintain legal names on our school reports.
Thank you to everyone who responded and shared their thoughts in the survey. This assists in giving greater clarity to decision making.
Full details are available on the school website calendar. The following are important dates to note:

The Ōtaki College Board of Trustees has been talking with the College Community over past months in order to develop the Draft 2022-26 Strategic Plan.
The BoT would now like parents, students, staff and wider community members to comment on the draft to find out if it reflects the vision and views we have for our College over the next five years. Please have your say by taking a few minutes to answer some or all of the 5 questions in our survey. Your answers will be anonymous and used only for the purpose of informing the strategic plan. The survey will remain open until 23 July.

Over the weekend of the 17th/18th July, the Manukura GPS lads are undertaking a mammoth 40 Hour Non-stop game of Football in the College Gym, all to support a local whanau, the Paroli's, and their 8 year old son's journey to kick cancer's butt.
The event is the brainchild of Max McHugo and Charlie Simpson, who heard of the challenging situation the Paroli whanau are currently navigating and wanted to do something to help. All proceeds are going directly towards travel to Auckland for treatment over the next 18 months and everything this encompasses.
Play will start at 6am on Saturday the 17th and will continue through until 10pm on Sunday the 18th. The Manukura crew have been split into two teams and have the challenge of ensuring a 5-a-side game is being continually played over this time. The team who has scored the least amount of goals at the end of the 40hours also has the added pleasure of having to jump into the (currently quite green) school pool!
We are asking for as many wonderful people as possible to support us in a variety of ways.
- Donate directly by heading to our GiveALittle page at bit.ly/40hrfooty
- Booking in a time with Matua Sam to come and play against the Manukura crew (trophy included!)
- Coming down over the weekend to support. Bring cash as a koha box will be present
- Buy raffles over the weekend. Awesome prizes up for grabs!
- Spread the word to as many people as possible!
Some come check it out and help show how amazing our little community is while to rally around a special whanau in need! For more information, please do not hesitate to get in touch!

At the end of the first term the University of Otago ran a nationwide problem solving competition for Year 9 to Year 11 students, called the Junior Mathematics Competition. This year 27 of our students participated in the competition. The first round of the competition was online, and was not without technical difficulties from the University’s perspective. They were not expecting the thousands of entries and their server could not cope. From this section of the competition the top 15% of the students who entered were then offered the opportunity to take part in the final - an exam type section of the competition, which the staff in the Mathematics Department of the University mark.
Congratulations to all of the participants. Special mention must be made of the five students from Ōtaki College who qualified for the final. Well done Hayley, Archie, JT, Louis and Giorgio. We are awaiting their results, but do not expect them until the end of term 3.
Running from Monday June 28 to Sunday July 11, 2021.
