On Wednesday 27 August, 23 of our senior students met with several local businesses to engage with them and explore different pathways. Employers came from Kelly and Co, Ōtaki Pool - KCDC, Black and Co. Quality Leather NZ Ltd, Kāpiti Law, Goodmans Contractors, NZ Police 105 Non Emergency, Kāpiti.Coast Aquatics, Dark Horse Coffee, New Zealand Defence Force and Pronto Electrical.
During the Employer Meet students were able to gain valuable interview experience and build connections that could potentially turn into work experience placements or job opportunities in the future. The students all enjoyed the free pizza as well!
One student who is interested in automotive engineering gained valuable information from talking to members of the Defence Force. He said: "they pay for the training and the tools, plus you get a decent salary". He hadn't really thought about this as a potential training option before. Another student said: "the event was a great success as lots of the students came out feeling more confident about answering questions about themselves and their experiences. The interviewers provided a calm but professional space for students to build an idea of how a work interview would go".
We would like to thank Work Ready Kāpiti for organising this event and also all the awesome employers who gave up their time to spend with our students.
