1. WĀTAKA RANGATIRA TUKAHA - This Wednesday 10 akonga attended the second planning hui for Wānanga 2 at Paraparaumu College with the kaupapa "Ko wai koe?''. Paraparaumu College are hosting Wānanga 2 at Tainui marae with the dates to be confirmed. This wānanga at Tainui marae will be held on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The first wānanga was held last term in the marae at Kapti School and akonga made new friends and had many new memorable learning moments. Te Kareti o Ōtaki are hosting Wānanga 3 at Katihiku marae in Term 3.
2. TE WHAKATAETAE O NGĀ MANU KŌRERO O TE WHANGANUI Ā TARA KI ŌTAKI 2022 - Te Whakataetae Is being hosted by TKKM o Te Rito , TKKM o Whakatipuranga Ruamano and Te Kareti o Ōtaki. The Ngā Manu Kōrero is being held on Monday 29 June at Ngā Purapura and at Te Ara a Tawhaki. The competition has the Korimako Contest, Sir Turi Carroll Contest , Pei Te Hurinui Jones Contest and Te Rāwhiti Contest. THE KORIMAKO CONTEST is for secondary Māori students in years 11,12,and 13.It is in two parts, a prepared speech in English and an impromptu speech in English. SIR TUI CARROLL CONTEST- is for Secondary Māori pupils in years 9 and 10. The contest is in one part a prepared speech in English up to 6 minutes. PEI TE HURINUI JONES CONTEST - is for Secondary Maori students in years 11,12,13 who prepare a speech in Māori of up to 12 minutes plus an impromptu speech. TE RĀWHITI CONTEST is for Secondary Māori students in years 9 and 10 which is a prepared speech in Māori of up to 10 minutes.
Te Kareti o Ōtaki has a student competing in one of the contests and we look forward to supporting our akonga and also our neighbouring kura in the powhiri. All Te Reo Māori students will have school practises for the powhiri at College and a combined practise to be confirmed.
3. MĀHI Ā KURĀ - Year 7 & 8 akonga have all been engaged in meaningful learning opportunities learning through listening, speaking, reading and singing in Te Reo .TRE 9/10 students continue to make progress in developing speaking and writing confidence through doing , saying , singing and having lots of fun while learning. The other Te Reo Maori akonga are working towards completing achievement standards in Tuhituhi at Level 1,2.3 and Te Reo Rangatira. Kia kaha akonga ma ki te whakaoti tena mahi .

4. MĀORI HUBLAND FILM FESTIVAL - Is happening here in Ōtaki on June 29 - Sunday 3 July . Some of the Te Reo Maori akonga will be attending the viewing of the Māori film ' He Waiora " on Friday July 1 at 10 am and then will participate in a workshop immediately after this. A consent form and panui pertaining to this will be sent out at a later date.
