These students received over 50 Kia Kaha cards during the year - showing that they are outstanding representatives of our R.O.A.R. values.
This summer Y7 and Y8 students at Ōtaki College have the opportunity to take part in the Summer Learning Journey. It is a free, blogging programme available to Year 3-8 students attending schools in the Manaiakalani clusters who have been sharing via their own blog for at least a year while learning to be cybersmart. The purpose of the Summer Learning Journey programme is to provide our young people with an opportunity to continue to actively and purposefully engage in literacy learning during the holidays.
The theme for the programme this year is “Celebrating Summer” and there will be activities in both Te Reo Māori and English. Each week participants will be able to choose from a number of STEAM based activities and then share what they have learnt on their individual school blog.
“STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, creativity and critical thinking.”
Summer Learning Journey Staff will read all of the students’ blogs and post personalised, supportive and educational comments for each student.
The programme officially starts on Monday 14th December 2020 and runs until Friday 22 January 2021.
