As with lots of events over the past two years, Sports Prizegiving was affected by COVID-19 gathering limits, meaning that only staff and award recipients were able to attend. While this was disappointing for students and whānau, we took heart that we were still able to hold this important event on the school calendar.
Sports Prizegiving is a chance for us to recognise our top of code sportspeople who were nominated in the College Sport Wellington “Spoty Awards”. Our Top Teams for 2021 were our Boys and Girls U19 Waka Ama Teams after a very successful campaign at the NZSS National Waka Ama Championships. Tash Mills received Coach of the Year for her efforts with our ŌC Black Netball Team. Jordan Blakeley and Eddy Vidulich jointly received the Ōtaki Gym Club Cup for Sportsmanship. Kaitlin Vodanovich received our Service to School Sport Award and the Outstanding Contribution to Sport Cup in recognition of her commitment to coaching and dedication to our Sport Council.
This year Sports Blues were awarded to: Te Wai Tirikatene, Caleb Smith, Heremaia Cooper, Pounamu Mackay, Te Wairere Hapeta-Millan, Oriwa Jury and Tikardan Tahiwi-Stowers.
Over the course of the evening 115 awards were given out to students who participated in 25 different sporting codes. Congratulations to all winners.
