Rockquest Bandquest is a competition for students in bands who are in Primary school - up to Year 8. This year Ōtaki College’s band called Superfire entered into the Manawatū region. Unfortunately due to Covid we were unable to perform live and had to submit a video performance instead. So the students got dressed up, Steve and Anje sorted out the stage and sound and Mr Aitken filmed them in the school hall. We had a great turn out at lunchtime with students and staff all extremely impressed with the learning and hard mahi they had put in. Superfire performed ‘Sweet Dreams’ by Eurhythmics, and ‘Hit the Road Jack’ by Ray Charles.
When the results came through we were ecstatic to find out we had come 3rd place and won the best Keyboardist and best Vocalist awards also. Some of the comments from the judges included “Great choice of songs that really suit the skills of the band!”, “Sounds really well rehearsed!”, and Vocals are excellent!”. A huge congratulations to the following students: Cruz Angove-Kahui (Drums), Mana Toimata (Guitar/Vocals), Tumoana Sa’ena (Guitar), Eddie Vidulich (Bass), Nevaeh Lawton (Keyboard), Tara Hakaraia-Lanham (Vocals), and Ella-Jaye Milldove-Henderson (Vocals).
We look forward to performing live again in 2022!
