If I were asked to sum up my spirit of adventure experience with one word, I would describe it as rewarding. Walking onto the ship, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. The idea of being stuck on a ship for 10 days with about 30 strangers was definitely a bit scary, but the experience, the lessons I learned and the people I met made it absolutely worth it.
During the voyage, I was lucky enough to have some amazing adventures. My highlight was swimming with the dolphins, which was closely followed by the paddle through Shag Harbour and the beautiful tramp on Abel Tasman. The 6:30 wake up to jump straight into the cold water every morning was a bit of a struggle, but seeing the stunning sunrise made it worth it.
I gained valuable knowledge through Spirit of Adventure. I learnt the importance of being a fair leader, being patient and always being grateful for what you have. I met some awesome people and created friendships that will last a lifetime.
Spirit of adventure challenged me out of my comfort zone and pushed me to my limits. Walking off the ship I felt like a new person. I felt accomplished and proud of what I had achieved. It gave me a new sense of confidence and left me feeling invincible. It was an opportunity I will forever be grateful for and will always remember.
My sincere thanks to Stuart and Mary Pritchard for this amazing opportunity through the Stuart Pritchard and Spirit of Adventure Sailing/Leadership Scholarship.
