Unfortunately covid struck again and changed our plans. The pūhoro students were due to attend the wānanga for term 2 on Tuesday 29 June. Although Palmerston North was in level 1, with our region being at alert level 2, it was felt that it was better that we did not travel to Palmerston North.
However, the team from pūhoro came down on Monday and brought one of the activities with them.
This involved a plastic box of bits for a small battery powered car.
Groups were challenged in the 40 minutes available to make the fastest car. Whaea Dawn and Seuga looked to be in the lead at one stage, but soon fell behind as they struggled to connect their motor to the batteries and get their rubber band in the best position.
The overall winners were Heremaia and Waretini, with their design that had their car moving across the carpet in the library before the end of the time allocated. Other groups were well on the way but kai consumption and the start of first break put an end to their efforts.
A great way to end the term, with a supply of chocolate and the distribution of this year’s puhoro hoodies to complete the session.
