It seems that the ID required when students wish to sit their Learner Licence is a barrier to many. I therefore wanted to clarify this for students and whānau.
The identification required is as follows:
Option 1: Current NZ passport OR
Option 2: Original 1998+ NZ birth certificate plus a current photo ID in the same name as their birth certificate (this could be their school or UCOL ID) OR
Option 3: Original 1998+ NZ birth Certificate, DL26 form, plus proof of address (eg.bank statement, IRD letter).
Ōtaki College provides $50 towards the cost of any driving licences or defensive driving courses. Bank account details and evidence of their licence can be sent to Mrs Putt to activate this. Students are also able to gain NCEA credits for the licences that they achieve. Students can see Mrs Putt or Mr Wood about this.
Please make sure that you are talking with your young people about their use of social media. We have had some instances where students have been upset by the level of cyber bullying that takes place, particularly on Instagram.
Students can only use their phones before and after school and during break times. If you wish to contact your child at any other time, please ring the office.
