Last Friday, members of Manukura GPS and Manawanui Wahine celebrated Matariki with our inaugural mid winter swim. This year the theme was "Wash away the winter blues". For many of us this time of the year can be a struggle, we wanted to raise awareness of that and do something a bit out of the box at the same time.
The morning was stunning, not a breath of wind, the sea was calm, Ruapehu standing majestically against the sunrise. The water was relatively warm, much warmer than the air, warm enough that there were a small handful of swimmers that were still in the water after 10 mins. It was the best way to start a Friday morning in July!
Thank you to everyone who came to support the event and to Kirsty for opening up the surf club for hot showers and hot chocolate. We are all looking forward to doing the same on a cold July morning in 2022.
