On Friday June 10th, Ōtaki College had students in 3 bands competing for a place in the Manawatū Regional Finals of the 2022 Smokefreerockquest. All three bands had to write and perform an original song.We are pleased to announce that all 3 bands have made it through to the Regional Finals and will need to video a performance of a new original song and send it through by July 4th.
Our first band performing was Powercut, made up of Freddy Sayer, Ethan Kyle, Logan Hughes and Pierre Lange-Gerrard. Their song was about tolerance and called “Same, same, but different”. The audience loved them.
Our second band was T.E.P.A.K.I., made up of Taleah Falamoe, Ella-Jaye Milldove-Henderson, Parearohi Edginton, Awhina Osborne, and Isla Armstrong. This was their first smokefreerockquest and their first time performing to a live audience. Unfortunately, Ella-Jaye was unable to be with them on the night due to Covid but will be joining them at the Variety Concert and for the Regional Finals.
The third band with Ōtaki students in it was Dragon Scales, featuring Wyeth Andrews and Saren O’Sullivan. They were the final performers and also excited the crowd.
These three bands will be playing at the Variety Concert on Wednesday 22nd June. We wish them all the best for the Regional Finals.
