Ki o Rahi

In 2024, the Ōtaki College Year 7 & 8 department again had a lot of fun being involved in learning about the game of Ki o Rahi in sessions run by Tū Mātau Ora in conjunction with the Kāpiti Coast District Council. 

This culminated in us taking five Year 7 & 8 teams to a schools tournament organized by the council at Matthews Park in Raumati. The tournament was an opportunity for students to put into practice the skills they had been learning in their in class session, but within a game setting. The tournament was not scored, there were no winners or losers (although the kids definitely kept track of the score themselves!). 

It was all about participation and giving something new a go. A huge thank you to the council who supported us through the provision of a bus, meaning we could take five teams to the tournament, and to the parent helpers who came and supported our teams on the day. Also a big thanks to Nikora and Jaybee, who took on their roles as student coaches with skill and leadership on display. We look forward to this continuing in the future.
