The Ōtaki College Board of Trustees has been talking with the College Community over past months in order to develop the Draft 2022-26 Strategic Plan.
The BoT would now like parents, students, staff and wider community members to comment on the draft to find out if it reflects the vision and views we have for our College over the next five years. Please have your say by taking a few minutes to answer some or all of the 5 questions in our survey. Your answers will be anonymous and used only for the purpose of informing the strategic plan. The survey will remain open until 23 July.
In addition to asking the College and Community to comment on the Draft Strategic Plan via the above survey, the Board of Trustees would like to invite all whānau to come along to a consultation evening and BBQ on 17 June - 5.00-7.00pm in the staffroom. Come along, have a sausage and a chat with the Board and take this opportunity to have a say in how the College prepares your tamariki for their future pathways.

Our Learning Support Department is looking for an old garden bench. They want to restore it (new coat of paint etc) and put it outside Learning Support. If anyone has a bench lying around that is still in working order, but is not being used, please contact Christelle Spiers on csp@otakicollege.school.nz.
Mobile phones are a distraction for students and we are now requiring students to only use them before and after school and in break times. If a student is found to be using a mobile phone in class we have asked teachers to remove the phone from the student and for a first offence, return it at the end of the period. If, however, this does become an ongoing problem we will ask for the phone to be removed and handed into the office until the end of the day and you will be contacted in regard to this matter.
We would also ask parents to make sure you are aware of what apps your children have on their phones and what they are looking at. Phones provide 24/7, ubiquitous access to the internet and if parents are not aware of what is happening, this can lead to major issues. Students' ability to view online pornography and violence is a major concern for us. We do everything we can to safeguard our systems at College to protect your children and prevent this, but it is up to students and parents to make sure phones are used responsibly.
... to Ruby Neale, Kade Hill, Matthew Hall, Saul Ward, Liam Thomas, Mauatua Edwards, Eddy Vidulich, Giorgio Bevan and Lachlan Byrne who were selected and ran at the Kāpiti Inter-school Cross Country. Awesome to see so many students selected to run at this event.
Focus on the strengths you would like to build. Relax! You do not need to possess all these characteristics to be resilient
Optimistic Thinking
Strong Supportive Relationships
Humour
Having a strong sense of meaning in life
Able to face fear (leave one's comfort zone)
Helping others cope with extreme stress
Having a moral compass (beliefs that cannot be shattered)
Home conversations
Have conversations at home about when family members have demonstrated resilience tools listed above, and how that
helped?
When you draw your kids attention to the times they have navigated tough times before, you are building their belief that
they can cope.
We often focus on what we haven't done. Try turning the negativity bias by writing down the things you did do/accomplish or
got started on this week.
The documentary includes the following:
