Kia Ora,
I spent eight days of the school holidays at Outward Bound in Anakiwa and would like to share a bit about it with you all. Right away, we were slammed into these tight schedules, and I quickly learned that not being late wasn't just a rule—it was about not letting my team down. That discipline was key to making the whole experience run smoothly, and this was one of the many life lessons I learned.
The course was set up to make you step up, lead, and work well in team situations. We did all sorts of activities, like navigating a huge tramp as well as spending two whole days sailing and rowing through the Marlborough Sounds with dolphins all around the boat! There were always moments where you had to be the one to take charge and make a call for the group. I met a bunch of new people and made many cool memories.
My favourite thing was just living in the present. No phones, no distractions—just focusing on the moment, the people, and whatever challenge was right in front of you. Outward Bound forces you to slow down and actually see what's going on around you, instead of constantly thinking about what’s next.
I would like to thank Matua Andy, Outward Bound and everyone involved who gave me the opportunity to have this experience. It is something I think everyone should look into and will deeply enjoy.
