Donald Rankin

Donald Rankin was born on August 26, 1907 at Bellfontaine, Ohio. He was the son of Cora (Moore) and Charles Rankin. Before the war he was living in Yaphank and was self employed as a grocer. Rankin enlisted in the Army on November 17, 1942 at Patchogue, New York. He was trained and as a Mess Sergeant and was assigned to the Service Battery of the 492nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion. . He left the United States on the USS Florida arriving in Trinidad. Rankin returned to the United States by plane from Ascension Island on September 11, 1945 and was discharged 5 days later at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
