Nazi Salute at Long Island Celebration

The second annual German Day for Long Island drew nearly 25,000 Nazis from the metropolitan area to Camp Siegfried at Yaphank yesterday. They are shown giving the Fatherland salute in an atmosphere similar to the huge demonstration at the Templeh___ Airport in Berlin. Camp Siegfried is operated by the German American Settlement Bund in New York.

Speakers Deny Activities Are Subsidized From Abroad

YAPHANK - Thirty thousand attended the second annual Long Island German Day celebration at Camp Siegfried yesterday, and heard the German government praised speakers who denied activities at Camp Siegfried are unAmerican.

A delegation of 50 black-shirted Italian-Americans, headed by john Finzo, president of the Circolo Mario Morgantini, and H.M. Melinkoff, president of the Russian-Nationalist-American League, attended the exercises.

Speakers included Ernst Muller, president of the German-American Settlement League, sponsors of the camp; Fritz, president of the German-American Bund, Finzo and Melinkoff.

Muller declared: “Much publicity has been given to our activities. It has been charged that they were financed by foreign governments seeking to overthrow the existing regime in the United States. These charges are utterly untrue. They are advanced by a destructive group of un-American elements that we have come to consider the most dangerous menace to the future welfare of our country.”

He spoke in German.
