Edward Pfeiffer married Jennie Overton July 28, 1907 after the death of his first wife, Elizabeth Swezey. They had a son, Everett Pfeiffer, born April 9, 1909 who attended Stony Brook Boys' School and on Oct. 22, 1932 married Grace Faron, who was the daughter of Samuel and Charlotte Faron of Coram. Everett and Grace had a son, Everett Jr., born May 21, 1934.

On Jan. 31, 1940 Mr. Edward Pfeiffer, who had been Middle Island postmaster since Feb. 14, 1901, turned the post office over to Everett. On Oct. 25, 1940 Percy Still became postmaster and moved the post office to his gas station on the west side of Rocky Point Road until Oct. 26, 1943 when it was returned to Pfeiffer's store with Everett again acting postmaster.

Everett was drafted into the U.S.Army and Nov. 5, 1943 reported to Camp Upton. Eleven days later he was transferred to a Coast Artillery post at Fort Lyon near Peak's Island, off Portland, Maine. He remained at Fort Lyon until February 1945 when he was moved to Camp Houze, Texas. Four months later he was sent to Fort Meade, Maryland where he was transferred to an Army post in the Panama Canal Zone. On December 10, 1945 Everett arrived home after receiving his discharge from the Army.

While Everett was in the Army his wife, Grace, was appointed acting postmaster in Middle Island. After his discharge Everett resumed his position as postmaster and also ran the general store in which the post office was situated. He continued in this occupation until his death in 1957.
