George A. Betz was born August 20, 1911, the son of George and Minnie Betz. His father was from Germany. They moved from Ridgewood Heights, Queens County to Ridge during the 1930s. George was single and working as a sales clerk when he began service in the Army on February 18, 1942 at Camp Upton, Long Island. He achieved the rank of Technician Fourth Grade before he was discharged form the service on March 17, 1946 at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
