Theodore A Hines was born May 29, 1906. In 1920 he was living at North Seventh Street., Brooklyn with his parents John and Josephine. In August 1937, his mother deeded to him in Middle Island property located on the north side of Middle Country Road between Swezey Lane and Swezeytown Road. Theodore operated a tavern there called Hunters' Inn until his induction into the Army. The following is an entry in Albert Bayles's diary for March, 30, 1942.

"I called at Hunters' Inn about Civil Defense orders to extinguish neon lights & signs & seaward & skyward bright lights which might help enemy submarine activity, effective every night beginning tonight".

Theodore Hines began his service in the Army on Nov. 18, 1943 at Patchogue, NY. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, the World War II Service Lapel Button and was discharged at Fort Dix, NJ on October 24, 1945.
